The Executive Director of the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), Sam Daibo, met with the vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, professor Yemi Osinbajo on Feb. 4 at the State House in Abuja, Nigeria.

Representatives from PIND partner organizations also attended including: the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) projects, Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Program (NSRP) and Facility for Oil Sector Transparency and Reform (FOSTER).

The group briefed Osinbajo on the activities of the Niger Delta Way Forward Program (NDWP), an initiative aimed at reviewing and improving development plans for the Niger Delta. Four Nigeria Federal Government Ministries and Agencies manage NDWP: the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Presidential Amnesty Programme, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and Ministry of Environment. The Feb. 4 meeting was the first of a series of NDWP meetings planned for 2016.

During the gathering, Osinbajo emphasized the importance of collaboration by all parties performing development work in the Niger Delta. He expressed support for NDWP and his interest in working with program partners in refining the new operational framework for coordinating development efforts. Osinbajo also pledged his office would be represented at an upcoming technical workshop planned by NDWP.

The framework focuses on six key areas of concern: security, rule of law, economic diversification, environment, governance and social well-being.
