The Technical Adviser, Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Dr. Bala Yusufu, has said that the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to actualize the SDGs in the Niger Delta.
Yusufu, who stated this at a ‘Stakeholders Roundtable on Advancing the SDGs in the Niger Delta’ in Warri, Delta State, noted that the intervention cuts across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
He said, “Since the adoption of the 2030 agenda in September 2015, Nigeria has taken over very quickly in the overall implementation of the SDGs. That happened by the establishment of the OSSAP with a full-fold mandate to coordinate strategic planning and guidance for the SDG to do resource mobilization and management.

“At the national level, we recognize that the SDGs, unlike the MDGs, cannot be achieved with stand-alone projects and programs, which must be carefully integrated into our national development plans as well as our central plans.
“Federal ministries, departments, and agencies of government to ensure that relevant SDGs are integrated into the central policies and plans of the federal ministries and that resources are provided through the foundational monitoring sources to form these SDGs.”
Speaking at the event, a non-governmental organisation, the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta, said the roundtable offered an opportunity to highlight sustainable approaches that will advance the SDGs in the area as well as to learn from global best practices in accelerating progress towards attaining the bold targets of these global goals by 2030.
According to the Partnership and Engagement Manager, PIND, Chime Asonye, said that the meeting on the SDGs in the region was to give room to participants to share their work around the SDGs.
