Work would soon commence on the $1.5 billion petrochemical plant located in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom state.
This was made known by the Governor, Udom Emmanuel while speaking with Journalists over the weekend. The Governor said the plant would generate a lot of employment opportunities for the people of the state.
He also said the government has put everything in place for the take-off of the plant.

In his words “We have done the environmental impact assessment, the Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) has been issued and the site has been cleared and ready for work to start. Once the gas purchase agreement with Exxon Mobile is finalised, work will commence immediately,â€Â

He however appreciated the effort of Quantum Petrochemicals owned by businessman Jim Ovia for believing in the state . “We want to use this opportunity to thank the Chairman of Quantum Petrochemicals Company Limited, Mr. Jim Ovia, for this huge investment in our state. This project will create employment for thousands of our people and will also add to our efforts to rapidly industrialise our state.

Former President Jonathan had on August 14, last year, performed the ground breaking ceremony in Ibeno for the construction of the $1.5 billion petrochemical and gas plant.
