July 1, 2014The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is to launch the Niger Delta version of the Presidential Youth Empowerment Initiative (YOUWIN) as part of the commission’s wealth creation agenda for youths of the Niger Delta region.
George Turnah, Special Assistant to the Managing Director of NDDC on Youths, Sports, Culture and Women Affairs, disclosed this at an interactive session with youth leaders in Ekpan, Delta State, saying under the programme, an average of 1000 youths from the region are expected to benefit from direct grant to enable them develop businesses.
Youth leaders at the forum were drawn from ethnic nationalities of Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo and Ndokwa, Niger Delta Youth Movement, National Council of Women Society, student’s bodies and other interest groups. The board also came up with a three-point agenda of capacity building, employment generation and wealth creation for youths of the region.
The interaction with youth leaders in Delta was part of state-to state consultation with youth leaders in the Niger Delta region on the issue of youth development and empowerment, and to set agenda for the fourth governing board of the commission led by Sir Bassey Dan-Abia led NDDC.
