May 15, 2015Over 10,000 job opening has been unveiled by Microsoft for Nigerian youths by bringing potential job seekers to meet with career experts and recruiters to understand the job market.
This was made known at an event tagged ‘Career and Employment Fair 2015’ held in conjunction with Endive Project. The event enabled the youths to be positioned and take advantage of available jobs as statistics revealed that 50 percent of youths are either unemployed or underemployed.
Director, Education and Citizenship, Microsoft Nigeria, Patrick Onwumere, said that empowering young people and fostering the development of 21st Century skills for this generation is Microsoft passion saying that “Our employability program in partnership with the Future Project and Jobberman has trained over 63,000 people in two years, this initiative is one of our efforts to place more and more people into jobs and fi ght unemployment.â€
Chief Executive Officer, Endive Projects, Debo Ajayi, organisers of the job fair noted that the future of Nigeria are the youths and anyone that focuses on developing the youths will build the future.
“We need to ensure that we empower youths with information that will enable them get great opportunities to be gainfully employed and productiveâ€, he said.
While explaining his reason for partnering on the Job fair, Ayo Daniels, founder of The Lighthouse emphasised the importance of youth development in Nigeria and the mandate of The Lighthouse through her activities to continually raise leaders who can create employment in different sectors of the economy.
“We are called to resolve societal issues and we will not relent in creating opportunities for the youths of Nigeria through our various empowerment initiatives,†he asserted. Managing Director/Chief Executive Offi cer, Anieti Ukpe, Fistolas Limited, a High Performance Technology Training Company, emphasised the opportunity available for job seekers to improve their employability by developing transferable skills that employers are looking for in this current economy.
“Our support for this initiative is in line with our commitment to empower Nigerian Youthsâ€, he added.
In the past three years, Fistolas Limited has conducted and managed Mobil Producing Nigeria’s Scholarship program to help young people access the best education, and has also been conducting Outcomesbased Competency Assessor Training for Competency Assessors in ExxonMobil, Bourbon Interoil Nigeria Limited and other reputable companies.
