June 17, 2016The Akwa Ibom State government is set to host the first climate change and clean energy mega summit/expo aimed at seeking solutions to the challenges of climate change and sustainable environment.
The summit slated for July 26 – 30 with the theme ‘Charting a Road-map for Sustainable Environment and Creation of Green Jobs’, would feature exhibition, a climate walk, legacy tree planting programme and a green talk shop, among others.
In partnership with African Clean Energy Summit (ACES) and Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, the summit would bring together experts, intellectuals and major stakeholders on the environment to address salient issues of climate change in Nigeria in particular the Niger Delta region.
Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources in Akwa Ibom, Dr. Iniobong Essien, told newsmen in Lagos that the state was seriously facing various forms of environmental degradation basically due to its geographical location and other natural and human induced factors.
The commissioner, represented by the Special Representative of Governor Udom Emmanuel, Mr. Samuel Bassey, disclosed that the summit is expected to galvanize the creation of thousands of green jobs through the climate change and sustainable development activities.
