September 3, 201510,000 Youths to benefit from Abia Technical Education Scheme
September 4, 2015As part of  efforts to reduce indolence among the youths and in response to the resolution to empower youths in the state, the Akwa Ibom state Executive Council has approved the establishment of 10 sports academies proposed by the state government.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Aniekan Umanah, each of the 10 federal constituencies would have an academy. In addition to the establishment of the sports academies, there will also be an empowerment training programme in photography, videography and film production for 329 youths to be drawn from all the wards in the state.
Umanah pointed out that citing an academy in each of the federal constituencies would facilitate the harnessing of talents from schools and communities. The goal is to discover such people and prepare them for future sports engagements locally and internationally.
“All of these initiatives are geared toward creating jobs and preparing our children for self-reliance, so as to make them assets of the society,†he said.
