Life and Peace Development Organization (LAPDO) was established in 2004 by a team of professionals and social development experts as a non-profit, non-governmental organization focused on enhancing processes towards the provision of quality life and peace for sustainable development. In 2008, LAPDO was registered with Corporate Affairs Commission with Certificate No. CAC/IT/NO 27548 as an organization prepared to work for the social and economic advancement of Nigeria.
Our Strategy
We need to be organised and imaginative enough to operate amongst multiple risks. We need to have the persistence and skill to help citizens in Nigeria suffering the worst effects of poverty and violence including Widows and marginalized women in the society, victims of rape and abduction, disabled children and street children. We are often very close to the fighting, but we need to becommitted to standing by children and families long enough to provide them the best possible assistance in overcoming their experiences.
Our Approach
Charities and NGOs traditionally based their work on meeting the needs of the people they help.‘Nothing wrong with that’ you might think, but in practice it often creates a situation where the beneficiaries become reliant on aid, and their governments are let off the hook. Our approach is that yes – women and children have immediate needs, but they also have rights – the right to an education, health, the right to live free from violence etc.
