Navigating Electoral Transitions Through Social Infrastructure in Warri
March 17, 2026Every year on March 8, the world celebrates International Women’s Day (IWD) — a global moment to recognize the achievements of women and accelerate progress toward gender equality.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2026, “Give to Gain,” highlights a powerful truth: when societies invest in women through opportunities, knowledge, and resources, the benefits ripple across communities and economies.
For the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), this principle is central to its work.
Across the Niger Delta, women play critical roles as entrepreneurs, peacebuilders, farmers, and community leaders. Yet many still face barriers to accessing markets, finance, leadership platforms, and emerging sectors of the economy.
To address these challenges, PIND’s International Women’s Day 2026 initiative is anchored on the sub-theme “Empower to Thrive.”
The initiative focuses on three key areas.
Expanding Access to Markets
Women entrepreneurs across the Niger Delta often struggle with limited access to premium markets and business networks.
Through its programs, PIND supports women to strengthen their business practices, improve product quality and packaging, and build stronger market connections. These efforts enable women to move beyond subsistence-level activities and participate more competitively in broader markets.
Strengthening Women’s Roles in Peacebuilding
Women are often at the forefront of community-level peacebuilding efforts. However, their contributions are frequently under-recognized and under-resourced.
PIND works with women peace actors to strengthen their leadership capacity, enhance their ability to mobilize resources, and support dialogue and conflict resolution processes that promote stability in communities.
Opening Opportunities in Renewable Energy
The renewable energy sector offers significant opportunities for economic participation and job creation. However, women remain underrepresented in technical roles.
Through targeted capacity building and mentorship, PIND is helping women gain practical skills in solar energy installation and renewable energy entrepreneurship, enabling them to participate in this growing sector.
Investing in Women for Lasting Impact
As part of its International Women’s Day activities, PIND will support 30 women across its program areas through mentorship, skills development, and business support over the course of the year.
By investing in women’s leadership, skills, and economic opportunities, PIND aims to strengthen livelihoods, promote inclusive growth, and contribute to sustainable peace in the Niger Delta.
Because when women thrive, communities prosper.
