How Solar Innovation is Helping Fisherfolk Mitigate Food Losses in the Niger Delta
July 20, 2025In a powerful moment of global recognition and leadership, Andrew Banigo, a dedicated staff of the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), represented not just his organization but the entire Nigerian region at the Global Shapers Annual Summit 2025, held at the World Economic Forum (WEF) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Themed #NextGenerationNow, the Summit gathered over 500 youth changemakers from more than 150 countries to envision bold, collaborative solutions to pressing global issues—from climate change to youth unemployment and digital inclusion. Andrew, a member of the Global Governing Body of the Shapers Community and Nigeria’s regional Community Champion, stood tall as a thought leader and change agent—bringing the voice of the Niger Delta to the global stage.
As a leader overseeing 17 hubs across Nigeria, Andrew played an instrumental role in strategic foresight sessions, led regional breakout groups, and mentored young leaders from over a dozen countries. His influence extended beyond conversations. Under his guidance, two Nigerian hubs won the prestigious Global Innovation Prize, signaling the depth of social impact coming out of the region.

Through side conversations, media engagements, and foresight labs with the WEF Global Foresight team, Andrew also spotlighted PIND’s innovative work in digital skills development, youth employment, peacebuilding, and inclusive economic growth in the Niger Delta. His participation strengthened global awareness of PIND’s models and opened pathways for deeper collaboration with international partners and Nigerian-based Shaper hubs.
“Representing PIND and the Niger Delta at this level reaffirms our belief that local solutions and young leaders can shape global outcomes. This is just the beginning,” Andrew shared after the summit.
At PIND, we celebrate Andrew not just as a program officer, but as a global connector and purpose-driven changemaker. His journey reflects our shared commitment to equipping young leaders, strengthening communities, and building a more inclusive future—locally and globally.
