The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) at the weekend received a huge post-training boost with the global electrical energy management specialist, Schneider Electric, offering employment to 15 of the 30 delegates trained in power management in France by the company.

In a letter signed by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Schneider Electric Nigeria Limited, Marcel Hochet, delivered to the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Chairman, Presidential Amnesty Programme, Hon. Kingsley Kuku, at a brief ceremony in Abuja, the company said it would employ directly at least 15 of the 30 students trained at its Isaac Boro training facility in France.

The CEO stated that the graduates after their one year training, which ends in November, would be engaged at Schneider Electric’s facilities in either Port Harcourt, Rivers State or “in any such location where we have needs of qualified technicians.”

He said the company would also undertake to find employment for the other trainees not selected for placement with any of its electrical contracting partners in Nigeria.

Hochet commended the commitment of Kuku to the programme and the Nigerian government for providing skills for the youths of the Niger Delta, adding that the company was honoured to be associated with the programme.

In his remarks, the PAP Chairman, who was elated by the job offer, described Schneider Electric as wonderful partners in the growth and development of Nigeria.

“The President will be delighted when this is transmitted to him. It is a confirmation of the great job the present administration is doing to build the capacity and transform not only the Niger Delta youths but also their compatriots in other parts of the country.

“By this development, Schneider Electric has struck a strong partnership with Nigeria and its government. We are thankful to the company for not only giving our youths quality technical training, but for also going further to engage them and in the process transforming their lives. We urge other firms doing business with government and its agencies in Nigeria to emulate this wonderful gesture by Schneider Electric,” Kuku said.

Managing Director of the training consultant, Lagoon Global Services Limited, Mr. Bekewei Ajuwa, also commended Schneider Electric for the initiative.

Ajuwa said he was particularly delighted that his firm’s partnership with the electrical giants was yielding positive fruits for Nigeria as another of its partners, Schlumberger, had also offered employment to some of the 29 delegates trained in oil drilling engineering at its facility in France a few months ago.
