Sombreiro Kapital (SK) is the product of the decision by the PIND and the DFID Market Development Program for the Niger Delta (MADE) to incorporate an independent Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for innovations in smallholders Agricultural Value Chain Financing. The decision to set up SK was informed by a situational analysis commissioned by PIND and MADE in 2017 and led by Mark Rostal, a development finance expert from DAI, to identify sustainable solutions to the financing challenges faced by smallholder farmers and SMEs.
Subsequently, on July 27th, 2018, Sombreiro Kapital was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee, with an overarching purpose of improving access to finance for smallholder farmers within the Niger Delta. An initial take-off fund was provided by PIND Foundation to enable SK to commence operations.
PIND is seeking to engage a consultant to implement the pilot transactions and to further develop and implement strategies to grow the initial seed fund to broaden and deepen Sombreiro Kapital’s operations and impacts.
