Primary Purpose: The Value Chain Expert will fill the role in an anticipated 3 years agricultural project funded by a donor, focusing on tomato/chili and ginger. The successful candidate will ensure value chain activities are well-designed by taking an active role in project work planning, and carry out the implementation these activities. Play a lead role coordinating with identified communities, government and private sector partners on value chain development. It should be understood that the tasks outlined below are the key responsibilities, but the candidate is expected to perform any tasks that are necessary within the context of the evolving needs of the project.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead the second sectoral focus area that is not covered by the team leader (horticulture with tomato, pepper and ginger or leather and garment)
- Support cooperation agreements and selection of grantees
- Organization of events (trainings, coaching, dialogue fora, B2Bs, trade show participation, technical exposure visits)
- Support of the team leader and the national long term experts in M&E and quality assurance
- Support the management in quality checks of data banks for the trainings and other activities
- Branding and campaign activities
- Collaboration on reporting and drafting of reports and presentations
- Knowledge management
- Event management
- Coordination of engagement with the private sector as interface to the donor implemented work packages to policy / enabling environment and access to finance / payment systems
- Any other tasks that may be assigned.
Required Technical Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in agronomy/agriculture, engineering, economics, social sciences or another relevant area of study
- Fluent in English with excellent communication, analytical and strategy skills
- 7 years of professional experience in the Private Sector Development and Value Chains sector
- 4 years specific professional experience in Support of either Vegetable Value Chains and/or leather/garment. Experience in the area of standards and certification or capacity development and coaching
- 3 years’ experience in development cooperation projects in Africa
- Evidence of participation in capacity WORKS training is an added advantage (can be added at a later date)
- Ability to develop well written, cohesive analyses and reports
