February 21, 2024Niger Delta Weekly Conflict Update: February 18-24, 2024
February 23, 2024Connected Development CODE, in collaboration with Oxfam in Nigeria, has continued in its advocacy efforts regarding the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) across various Niger Delta States. This follows the relaunch of the #PowerOfVoices Radio show, aimed at engaging communities on pertinent issues.
As a follow-up of previous meetings between the two organizations and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (@NUPRCofficial), focusing on enhancing collaboration concerning Host Community Development Trust (HCDT) matters, discussions emanating from extensive responses to questions were provided to address various concerns raised by community members across Rivers, Imo, Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States.
Key questions raised during the meetings included inquiries about the confirmation of the 3% operating expenses submission made by oil companies to ensure transparency, the commission’s strategies for handling defaulting companies and ensuring compliance, as well as processes for resolving conflicts on fund usage and internal crises delaying the establishment of the HCDT Fund in some communities.
In continuation of these efforts, the #PowerOfVoices radio show is scheduled to air in selected states from Wednesday, February 21st to Friday, February 23rd, 2024.
The show will broadcast in Akwa Ibom State on Comfort951fmUyo at 2:30 pm, on Wednesday, February 21st; in Rivers State on 917wavefm Portharcourt at 12:30 pm on Thursday, February 22nd; and in Delta state Asaba on trendfm1009 at 10:30 am on Friday, February 23rd.
Citizens are encouraged to tune in to the broadcasts, ask questions, and share their thoughts as the program aims to enlighten them on implementing the Host Community Development Trust Fund in their respective communities.
