Harnessing the power of wind. Wind power has been used by mankind for hundreds of years. Wind power converts wind into useful forms of energy. Windmills provide mechanical power, and wind pumps can pump water or provide drainage. Wind powered machines can still be a viable choice even in low wind conditions. Wind pumps provide a good alternative to electric pumps or generators. When the wind is blowing, water is pumped into a storage container above ground. When the wind isn’t blowing, the system relies on gravity to continue distribution of stored water until the wind picks up.
