Port Harcourt Students Strengthen Community Resilience Through Climate Education and Tree Planting
December 10, 2025As global conversations continue to emphasize the protection and empowerment of women and girls, initiatives that equip young girls with knowledge, confidence, and economic skills have become more critical than ever. In Rivers State, the fourth edition of the International Girls’ Conference provided a timely platform for strengthening the capacity of adolescent girls to navigate both the opportunities and challenges of today’s world.
Organized by Girls’ Embassy, in partnership with Girls’ Church, the conference brought together over 100 young women and girls under the theme, “Helping Girls Doing Business Understand and Grow Their Businesses Right”, reflecting a growing recognition that economic knowledge is not just a skill, it is a form of protection.
Empowering Girls Through Knowledge and Skills
The conference kicked off with sessions designed to equip participants with practical business skills. Young women explored the essentials of building and managing a business, from structuring operations to nurturing customer relationships and embedding ethics into sustainable ventures. Complementing these lessons, discussions on personal responsibility, hygiene, confidence, and self-awareness provided a holistic approach to empowerment, helping participants grow both as entrepreneurs and as individuals.
The sessions further reinforced a key message: when girls understand how to structure and protect their businesses, they are better positioned to safeguard themselves, build independence, and make informed decisions; thereby reducing vulnerabilities that often expose adolescent girls to exploitation or abuse.
Strengthening Self-Worth, Purpose, and Leadership
Beyond entrepreneurship, the conference placed strong emphasis on self-worth, mindset development, and purpose-driven living. Through motivational talks, interactive engagements, and open discussions, the girls were encouraged to:
- Build confidence in their abilities
- Understand their value as individuals
- Make informed life choices
- Pursue growth before external expectations
- Use digital tools responsibly and intentionally
Practical Support for Business Growth
To further encourage entrepreneurship, the conference awarded small business grants to selected students and provided additional support for business name registration and branding. These small but meaningful investments demonstrated a commitment to helping girls translate their ideas into tangible outcomes.
Looking Ahead
The 2025 International Girls’ Conference demonstrates how collective effort, structured guidance, and intentional programming can help protect and uplift adolescent girls in the Niger Delta.
By strengthening the next generation of women leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers, the Niger Delta continues to take necessary steps toward building safer, more inclusive communities where every girl can thrive.
