June 11, 2024In a significant move towards enhancing food security in the Niger Delta region, the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA) has announced a strategic partnership with the Niger Delta University (NDU), Amassoma, Bayelsa State. This collaboration aims to leverage the university’s expertise to promote sustainable agricultural practices and address critical regional challenges.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NDBDA Prince Ebitimi Amgbare,, affirmed the agency’s readiness to collaborate with NDU during a courtesy visit from the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Allen A. Agih. The meeting took place on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
Amgbare emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “The call for collaboration is timely and lays the foundation for a successful coalition between the Basin Authority and the University. We are committed to addressing issues such as flood, erosion, and agricultural development, which are core mandates of the Authority. We will take all necessary measures to ensure farm security, optimal harvests, and food security in our region.”
Vice-Chancellor of the University , Prof. Allen A. Agih who led the NDU team, highlighted the university’s strengths in environmental science and agriculture, particularly in flood and erosion mitigation. He called on NDBDA to explore various avenues for partnership, emphasizing the university’s research capabilities and commitment to regional development.
“We are eager to share the innovations developed at NDU to boost agricultural productivity,” Agih said. “Our university is ready to contribute significantly to this partnership, ensuring that the benefits extend to local communities.”
