August 11, 2023PIND’s unswerving dedication to amplifying voices in support of International Youth Day (IYD) celebrations, with a particular focus on the Niger Delta’s target group, remains steadfast. This year, PIND is aligning its objectives with the global theme and the United Nations’ youth agenda “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World. The spotlight will be on nurturing Green Skills through capacity-building initiatives and fostering economic empowerment for youths engaged in its projects.
Picture this: Young minds in the Niger Delta, armed with skills to reduce pollution, conserve natural resources, and unlock economic potential. That’s exactly what’s in store this year. PIND, supported by NDLink is partnering with Young Professionals and the Warri & Port Harcourt Hubs of the Global Shapers Community – recognized for their remarkable sustainability projects under the World Economic Forum.
Get ready for an impactful three-day training, which aims to equip young individuals with Solar Installation Skills and Upcycling which involves converting plastic waste and used Tires into useful products . Yes, you heard it right – they’ll be turning plastics into furniture and even bricks! Supporting them every step of the way are the PIND Access to Energy and Advocacy units.
Yet, this endeavor isn’t just about skills; it’s about catalyzing change. The primary focus is on diving into green energy, addressing environmental waste, and molding these young talents into advocates of sustainability. Envision them using their newfound skills to drive economic growth and advocating for preserving our planet, contributing to a prosperous and sustainable future.
The training curriculum will encompass theoretical classroom sessions to establish foundational understanding, entrepreneurial insights, practical hands-on experiences, and the exhibition of finished mock products stemming from the training. The participants’ active involvement in this training will qualify them for future advanced sessions through PIND Foundation’s Youth Empowerment Program (YEP).
Moreover, an avenue will be provided for the youth to contribute short articles around the theme, effectively promoting PIND’s impactful initiatives. This aspect of the IYD celebration serves as a catalyst to foster awareness regarding the importance of youths embracing innovative technologies and skill sets that champion a greener, more efficient environment.
