N-COGEP-D is a non-governmental, non-profit, gender sensitive, development organization founded in 1993 and registered with the Imo State Directorate for Social Development, Youth and Sport and Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja in 1994 and 2003 respectively.

The organization was formed by like-minded people as an outcome of their concern over the deteriorating state of the environment, of livelihoods and health of the grassroots population (especially the rural populace). Much of the worry had arisen from individual and collective experiences to the growing incidence of poverty among the masses, breakdown of traditional and indigenous values that once helped to maintain societal equilibrium and the growing pressure on community dwellers in the context of dwindling natural resources and overall general well being of the people.

The organization therefore sees itself as an avenue through which sustainable development can be conceptualized and promoted by an approach that emphasizes the intricate and inevitable relationship among natural resources management, socio-economic empowerment as well as poverty alleviation activities.

The organization is mostly active in the South East Region of Nigeria. Presently, it is run by an Executive Director, four professional staff, four volunteer staff and is a member of various international and local networks. The organization’s areas of thematic focus include Education, Health, Economic Empowerment, Environment, and Democracy and Governance.
