Stakeholders Hail PINL’s Community Engagement, Urge FG to Expand Mandate
October 9, 2025To strengthen literacy and inspire lifelong learning among young people in Rivers State, JCI Garden City, in partnership with JCIN CEAPOLY PROTEM, hosted the third edition of its flagship educational outreach — One Book, One Pen 3.0 — on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Community Secondary School, Rumuolumeni, the organization’s official Junior Club school. Held in commemoration of International Literacy Day 2025, themed “Empowering the Next Generation Through Literacy,” the event underscored JCI Garden City’s commitment to driving youth empowerment and educational advancement through community-driven action and collaboration.
Empowering Young Minds Through Knowledge and Confidence
The event featured a mix of inspiring and interactive sessions — including motivational talks, a boys-versus-girls debate competition, and an award ceremony recognizing students for exceptional academic performance and leadership. Books and writing materials were also donated to strengthen the reading culture and support the continuity of learning among students. Speakers emphasized that literacy remains the foundation for personal growth, economic empowerment, and national development. Through open dialogue and mentorship, students were encouraged to express themselves with confidence, think critically, and embody values of discipline, curiosity, and self-improvement.
Driving Impact and Advancing Global Goals
Under the leadership of Majesty Barikor (President, JCI Garden City) and Rita Paul (Secretary & Project Chairperson), the initiative directly reached over 100 students, equipping them with the tools, confidence, and motivation to pursue excellence in both academics and character development.
The project also contributed to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 1 (No Poverty), and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) — while aligning with the JCI RISE Initiative under the Workforce Motivation pillar.
The event drew participation from JCI members, partners, and guests, whose collaboration and shared commitment ensured the program’s success and lasting community impact.
Looking Ahead: Building a Generation of Readers and Leaders
The One Book, One Pen initiative reflects JCI Garden City’s vision of a society where literacy becomes the foundation for opportunity, empowerment, and transformation. By nurturing curiosity and creativity among young learners, the organization continues to ignite ambition and inspire a generation ready to lead with knowledge, empathy, and purpose.
