World Voice DayÂ is a worldwide annual eventÂ celebrated to demonstrate the enormous importance of the voice in our daily life, as a tool of communication, and as an application of a large number of sciences, such as physics, psychology, phonetics, art, and biology.
The World voice day was initiated in 1999 and is celebrated every 16thÂ of April. It was initiatedÂ as a combined effort of American and EuropeanÂ otolaryngologistsÂ
In cooperation with the international World Voice Day organizing body (world-voice-day.org), the University of Port Harcourt Nigeria has put up an event to commemorate this years world voice day in Nigeria with the theme “Voices for Peace. Nigeria will join other countries around the world to celebrate the human voice, with music and poetry unique to Nigeria.
The program will culminate with a performance of “A Thousand Voices for Peace” by the World Voice Day Nigeria Mass Choir. The auditorium will be filled with the glorious voices of Nigerian youth and will be broadcast around the world as part of the World Voice Day Global Concert Series.

The aim of World Voice Day Nigeria is to emphasize the importance of vocal health and to celebrate the vocal arts, including acting, broadcasting, public speaking, singing, and teaching. As the most populous black nation in the world, Nigeria is endowed with rich cultural diversity, manifested by hundreds of languages and a thriving arts and entertainment industry.
According to Collins Umoh, Manager of the Partners for Peace, theÂ World Voice Day Nigeria will convey a positive image and message from and about Nigeria and the African continent.
