September 25, 2014In line with its vision of becoming the most loved brand in the daily lives of Nigerians, leading communications services provider, Airtel Nigeria, has built two wings of modern market stalls in the Okehi market in Etche community, Rivers State, also donating borehole water pumps for the residents.
Airtel Nigeria embarked on the CSR-based community projects in response to the wish list put in by Chukwuma Nwankwoala, an indigene of Okehi Etche in Rivers State who fortuitously becamethe 25th Million Customer on the Telco’s network after he bought and activated an Airtel SIM on January 6th, 2014 in his native town Okehi.
Following his joining the Airtel network at a significant moment, the telecommunications giant as part of its milestone celebration offered him an opportunity to request any project of his desire for the benefit of his local community which will be provided by Airtel.
Nwankwoala requested the construction of market stalls to help his community drive and improve their economic activities and also boreholesas the community had no clean water source which Airtel granted at no cost to the community.
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Airtel Nigeria, Segun Ogunsanya, said Airtel’s gesture demonstrates the company’s commitment to empowering and uplifting the lives of members of the Nigerian society in line with its unique CSR approach of touching lives positively.
According to Ogunsanya, Airtel Nigeria is intensely interested in enriching the lives of Nigerians by creating platforms that will enhance the quality of life in the locations and communities we operate. We are glad about the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the lives of the people of Okehi.
The event was attended by several dignitaries from the local Okehi community including HRH Eze G.O. Onwuka(JP); Ochimba of Okehi Etche, Eze Michael Manugba; Umuogbuyi of Umuochiomo, Chief Daniel Nwogu, Ochimba of Agbalu/Umugwu, and HRH EZE Emmanuel Mbonu, Ochimba of Onuamato Community. Regional Trade Marketing Manager, Peter Mbuba, led the Airtel regional team to the commissioning ceremony.
