October 19, 2015The Rivers State Government says it will revive public libraries in the state in order to boost reading culture among the youths.
The Deputy Governor of the state Dr Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, made this known at a skills acquisition training programme organized by Future Rays International in conjunction with Rivers State Library Board in Port Harcourt.
According to her, that the present state government would bring back the glory of the library and equip new ones built under the Port Harcourt World Book Capital Project to enhance the reading culture that had been jettisoned due to internet evolution.
The Deputy Governor also urged the youth of Niger Delta region to take advantage of opportunities created by NGOs operating in the area to acquire relevant skills that would enhance their future.
She noted that the skills acquired within the short period of training had demonstrated that the future of Niger Delta youth was bright.
“There is future for the Niger Delta youth. It is no longer time to be associated with militancy, kidnapping, cultism, and other violent crimesâ€, she stated.
