The year 2002 marked the 10th year anniversary of the Earth Summit. Celebrated in South Africa as the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) or Rio +10, it offered governments, development practitioners, professionals of different leanings,and civil society organizations across the globe, an opportunity to gather and assess the status of sustainable development ten years after Rio. This publication ‘Post Rio Realities of Sustainable Development in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria’, was published within the framework of Rio +10. Based on primary and secondady sources, it explores critical parameters or indices of sustainable development, and assesses to what extent such indicators are present in the Niger Delta region..
