Beyond CLTS: Ensuring a Sustainable Approach to Sanitation    Â
 Workshop Date: 9th – 13th March 2015
Workshop Location: Warri, Nigeria
Spots Available: 20 Â Â Â Â Â Â Â (participants will be considered on first come first served basis using the eligibility criteria below)
Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) has proven to be very successful at triggering demand for sanitation services by helping people understand the link between human waste and sickness. However, once that demand and motivation has been created, CLTS programs must ensure that sustainable and appropriate sanitation solutions (through local knowledge and skills) are available at the community level. By the end of this workshop, participants will have the tools and knowledge they need to teach communities how to select, build and maintain sustainable latrine options.
What this training offers: This workshop gives participants the knowledge they need to empower communities to choose the most appropriate technologies for their needs, which helps reduce the likelihood that a latrine will be abandoned, while also being aware of the ongoing maintenance or cost requirements. This workshop covers the elements of a successful latrine project program through participatory instruction and hands-on activities, such as constructing latrine slabs and hand-washing stations, while examining latrine pit lining construction options and the design and size of pits.
Who should take this training?: This workshop is ideal for CLTS practitioners (such as government or NGO staff), local businesses engaged in latrine construction activities, community groups who have received CLTS training and WASH-related NGOs and community groups wanting to learn more about latrine selection and construction. This is an introductory workshop and is not intended to provide full training on the construction and installation of latrines or masonry training.
