Africa Polling Institute is an independent, non-partisan opinion research think-tank which conducts opinion poll, surveys, social research and evaluation studies at the intersection of democracy, governance, economic conditions, markets and public life. Our main objective is to produce and disseminate credible opinion research data to support better decisions, public policy, practice and advocacy in sub-Saharan Africa. We were established on the belief that citizens’ participation in democratic governance can deepen the democratic process, strengthen public institutions and promote social inclusion and national cohesion.
Africa Polling Institute (hereafter referred to as API), with support from Ford Foundation, is currently leading a project to conduct research and on generate data on Persons With Disabilities (PWD) in Nigeria. President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 signed the Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act into law, providing the foundational basis for policies and programs for PWDs in the country. Based on this giant leap by the federal government, states of the federation have been expected to domesticate this Act in order to create a more inclusive society.
API, with support from Ford Foundation is embarking on this research project to generate data on the state of PWD, and monitor progress on the domestication of the Disabilities Act in the 36 States of the federation and the FCT. The goal is generate data to support public policy on disabilities in Nigeria, especially at state levels; and to engender public engagement targeted at ensuring that states domesticate the Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2019. Thus API is opening a call for application to provide sub-grant to academics specializing in PWD research studies in Nigeria. Women and academics with disability are encouraged to apply.
