Many communities across the Niger Delta struggle with diseases due to unsafe water. The bio-sand filter Is a simple technology: sand, fine gravel and coarse gravel placed in large plastic container. by keeping the content wet, a bio-film develops, which removes 99% of impurities from the water. The filter can be made with local materials, is Inexpensive and easy to maintain, and has a long life.

PIND is working to promote the bio-sand filter in Amatu II community in Bayelsa state and is currently working to get this appropriate technology more readily available and mass produced locally
