September 15, 2014Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio
The Akwa Ibom State governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has revealed that the implementation of the tenets of good governance by his government is the secret behind the transformation of the state into an investors’ haven and a destination point for Nigerians, noting that this has brought about the uncommon economic development in the state.
This is just as the governor declared that the lack of positive mental orientation, commitment to service, good governance and transformational leadership were the bane of development in our society, “the sustainability of the economic development of any nation is predicated on government creating the right conditions and infrastructure for businesses to flourish and thrive.â€
Akpabio, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, at the maiden Akpabioism Economic Summit held at the Institute of International Affairs, Lagos, commended the Centre for Leadership Development and its chancellor, Pastor Bassey James, for rising to the challenge of addressing leadership failures and celebrating visionary leadership.
Identifying transparency and accountability as tenets of good governance, Akpabio said the rule of law and freedom of the people to enjoy the good things of life while actively participating in planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation of societal responsibilities were important to the society, warning that blackmailers should steer clear of Akwa Ibom State, as such could endanger the drive to deliver good governance.
“Though we know that good governance depends on the ability of government to exercise power, make good decisions over time, across a spectrum of economic, social, environmental and other areas; the deliberate misrepresentation of government’s intentions and actions is a major source of concern.†Akpabio warned.
In his speech, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Ndueso Essien, commended Governor Akpabio “for not only completing some of the programs and projects started by his predecessor, but also implementing the most ambitious programs and projects that made Akwa Ibom an emerging infrastructural hub in Nigeria, noting that, the Coinage ‘Akpabioism’ is a fitting tribute to the governor’s revolutionary ideals of uncommon transformation in the sphere of infrastructure and human resource development.†According to Essien,†if Akwa Ibom people must gain from what the present administration has done in the state, there is serious need for continuity, adding, our leader, particularly, Governor Akpabio meant to change change Akwa Ibom, and instead, they changed Nigeria and brought the world to our shores.â€
