April 28, 2014All is now set for the 2014 edition of the Niger Delta Achievers Merit Award (NDAMA) which has been scheduled to hold in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja. The annual award which is aimed at promoting individuality and self-actualization amongst Nigerians and particularly Niger-Deltans is being put together by Newaves Innovation; a group of professionals promoting excellence amongst Nigerians and especially, Niger- Deltans. Â According to the organizers of the award, the 2014 edition of the award is significant as it tends to mark the achievement of the Niger-Delta people at the time Nigeria is celebrating its centenary. Â The organizers say achievers of the centenary will decide the future of Nigeria and that of the Niger-Delta region.
In a brief chat with some journalists in Abuja while unveiling the date of the event scheduled to hold on 22nd May 2014 at the Ladi-Kwali Hall, Sheraton Hotel and Tower, Abuja, the Executive Secretary of Newaves Innovation, Miss Catherine Sagay said Niger Delta Achievers Merit Award is a private sector National Project dedicated to achievers from Nigeria and more particularly, Niger-Deltans. ” we have lined up great Nigerians with personalities of outstanding achievements from the Niger-Delta region and our aim is to encourage sons and daughters of the region into contributing more to the development of the society. The choice of Abuja as a host state is because those nominated for this year’s award are national figures that have gotten to the peak of their career. Abuja is a good choice because the award features people from all walks of life. Niger Delta Achievers Merit Award (NDAMA) also seeks to further foster unity amongst the people of Niger Delta origin both at home and in the Diaspora with the rest of Nigeria.
Speaking further, Sagay said the individuals who have been nominated for the 2014 edition of the event will be publicly profiled on our website: www.ndama.org for an unbiased appraisal of their achievements.
Announcing activities of the event, Sagay said the 2014 edition of NDAMA event will run for a period of 9 weeks. She said ”nomination stage opened within the first and fifth week of the award. In this very stage, list of nominees and their various categories are been made public so people could make constructive comments and suggestions about the credibility of such nominees. We use, Electronic Media, Print Media, social media and SMS Short Code to achieve this. ” She divulged further.
Continuing, she assured that Questionnaires that will determine the final selection process would be sent out during the sixth week of the award. She also said the publication will extend to the 4th of May 2014 and public announcement will be made regarding winners, while a dinner for the award presentation would hold on the 22nd of May 2014 with the THEME: “Legacies of Peace and sustainable development in the Niger Delta; Laying the right foundation” will be delivered by Niger Delta Front Line Celebrity, Ms Annkio Briggs.
Speaking on other possible side attractions of the event, Miss Sagay said we are considering having Bovi as one of the event hosts. We shall have an A-list of Nigerian musicians gracing the event. This edition of the event promises to be one of the best we have ever organized.
It would be recalled that the past four editions of the awards had faultlessly awarded great achievers of the Niger-Delta region, they included: Dr. Gamaliel Onosode, Cardinal Olunbunmi, Comrade Peter Esele, Gaius Obaseki, Dame Patience Jonathan, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Festus Keyamo, Ndoma Egba, Annkio Briggs and a host of others.
