The Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel has demonstrated his commitment to the industrialization of the State with the laying of a foundation for an Automobile Assembling Plant in Itu Local Government Area.
The Automobile Assembling Plant which is one of the fruits of the Foreign Direct Investment, is an Israeli company named MIMSHAC Merkavim Transportation Technologies Plant.
Mr. Udom Emmanuel said that the ground breaking ceremony of the Automobile Industry provides an unmistakable answer to those who doubted the possibility of industrializing the State. His words: “If there is anybody out there who doubt our determination to change the economic fortunes of the State; who is wondering whether our bold vision of industrializing Akwa Ibom is possible, this event provides answer to such doubtâ€.
He premised his decision to partner the Israeli Automobile Industry on the need to open up vistas for the industrialization programmes of his administration, maintaining that industrialization remains the corner stone to the creation of sustainable development.
The State Chief Executive acknowledged that the State is endowed with abundant resources which would be harnessed for industrial use and announced plans to establish a clay refining plant to boost economic momentum and create jobs for the people in fulfillment of his campaign promises.
In their speeches, the Chairman Foreign Direct Investment Committee Mr. Gabriel Ukpe, member representing Itu Federal Constituency, Dr. Henry Archibong and distinguished Senator Anietie Okon, spoke of the event as the beginning of industrial revolution which Governor Udom Emmanuel had promised Akwa Ibom people during his electioneering campaign. They expressed optimism that better days await the people as the Governor has taken steps to industrialize the State.
The International Business Development Adviser to MIMSHAC Merkavim Transportation Technologies Plant, Mr. Ronen Golan in his remarks stated that the company is a leading Automobile Assembling Firm with specialty in the assembling of luxury buses, utility vehicles, ambulances and fire trucks. He said the industry is set to train 20 indigenes of the State in areas of Automobile Manufacturing in addition to opening more job opportunities, building of schools and bringing international investors to the State.
He therefore thanked the Mr. Udom Emmanuel for accepting them into the State and promised to partner the State Government to make the State an industrial haven and also conveyed Jewish blessings on the State.
The Paramount Ruler of the Area, His Majesty Edidem Edet Akpan Inyang assured the company of a safe operating environment and thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for commencing the industrial revolution policy of his administration in his domain.
