Primary Purpose: The Team Leader will be focused on overall activities and project implementation in an anticipated 3 years agricultural project, funded by a donor. The focus value chains are tomato/chili (and horticulture), ginger, leather and garment. Focus states are Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Ogun, Oyo, Lagos and Abia. S/He will serve as the lead on project specific assessments (in accordance with the donor’s specification) and serve as a project coordinator in project assessment. It should be understood that the tasks outlined below are the key responsibilities, but the candidate is expected to perform any tasks that are necessary within the context of the evolving needs of the project.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Overall advisory and implementation responsibility for the project.
- Supervision of the activities with regard to certification and registrations.
- Initiation and support development of partnerships with Nigerian and other international/German enterprises.
- Support the continuation of cooperation with the ADPs and state governments and its institutions.
- Ensuring the coherence and complementarity of the project team with other services delivered by the programme at local and national level.
- Strategy, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of capacity development measures for local partners.
- Monitoring of crosscutting themes (e.g. gender equality) and ensuring enforcement and compliance with agreed standards Personnel management, in particular identifying the need for short-term assignments within the available budget, as well as planning and steering assignments and supporting local and international short-term experts.
- Ensuring results are monitored – Regular reporting in accordance with deadlines and donor specification.
- Responsibility for controlling the use of funds and financial planning in consultation with donor’s personnel responsible for the project.
- Supporting the donor’s representative responsible for the project in updating/adapting the project strategy, evaluations and preparation of follow-on phase.
- Maintaining and managing contact to other donors.
- Any other tasks that may be assigned.
Required Technical Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in agronomy/agriculture, engineering, economics, social sciences or another relevant area of study.
- 5 years of related experience in Support of either Vegetable Value Chains and/or leather/garment is required. Technical lead in one of the two sector focus areas (tomato/chili and ginger or leather and garment).
- Ability to develop well written, cohesive analyses and reports
- Fluent in English with excellent communication, analytical and strategy skills
- Experience in the area of standards and certification or capacity development and coaching.
- Proven experience with relationship building and team building skills
- 5 years of management/leadership experience as project team leader or manager in a company.
- 5 years’ experience in managing development cooperation projects in Africa. Evidence of participation in capacity works training is an added advantage.
