September 6, 2016Firm trains 31 Niger Delta youths in skills acquisition
September 27, 2016As part of effort to generate employment through agriculture, Government of Akwa Ibom has trained 2000 farmers on production, processing, branding and marketing of poultry produce under the anchor borrower programme of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Addressing participants of the programme held at Le-sien event centre in Uyo the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural resources, Mr. Mathew Ekaete, said that the gesture was part of government’s initiative toward generating more employments in the agriculture sector.
He said that the only way farmers can assist the state during this recession facing the country is by undergoing training programmes to equip their skill on modern way of farming.
According to him farmer in the state must now put their talking to work implementing all they have been taught during the training.
“We are considering even more programmes in that sector because Gov. Emmanuel wants to make agriculture a mainstay of our economy.
“Agriculture is not meant for everybody; one must actually know how to do the business, so we need to build their capacities to make them experience maximum yields,’’ he said.
“You don’t just start investment; you must add value to our farmers, build their capacities and encourage them.
“The farmers must know the business ethics and how to handle situations that may arise,†he said.
