To enhance student outcomes and reduce the employment gap, more can be done in transforming job seekers to job creators. This can be achieved by equipping students with relevant 21st-century skills and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset through innovative teaching. There must be a continous shift from a primarily theoretical approach to one that balances practical skills and entrepreneurship.
While the 2004 national policy mandating entrepreneurship education has led to the establishment of Entrepreneurship Development Centres (EDCs) in many universities, there is still room for growth. Some institutions focus more on theory instead of practical skills that translate ideas into enterprises and skills training often focuses on basic trades instead of critical thinking and innovation.
The British Council’s Enhancing Entrepreneurship Education in Nigerian Higher Education Institutions programme aims to address these challenges by providing tools and frameworks to strengthen institutional capacity and improve student outcomes.
They are inviting submissions from a technical partner— a consortium of a Nigerian and UK institution, with the Nigerian institution as lead to deliver this programme.
