Ondo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (ODSACA) has commenced training on Minimum Prevention Intervention Packages and District Head Information System (MPIP/DHIS) for Civil Society Organisations, Executive Directors, Line Ministries Focal persons, Monitoring and Evaluation Officers of State Action Committee on AIDS and Service Support Organisations.
The government said the aim was to increase their knowledge and skills on the national HIV prevention programme.
The Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of ODSACA, Dr. Aderotimi Adelola, while declaring open the five-day training in Akure Tuesday said, as a way of ensuring zero tolerance for the scourge in Ondo State, facilitators had been drawn from the University of Manitoba in Canada, the National Action Committee on AIDS and other experts in the strategic prevention techniques of HIV/ AIDS.
The SSG who was represented by the Project Manager of ODSACA, Dr. Adedayo Adegbulu, emphasised that the trained CSOs, Line Ministries Focal Persons, SACA Monitoring and Evaluation officers are going to be linked with the techniques and strategies for excellent programme implementation, which will equip them with skills on how to use the national HIV prevention routine monitoring tools.
Corroborating his view, the Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant of the Agency, Mr. Kola Oloye, said the training would enrich the civil society organisations to achieve their target, thereby updating and uploading needed data in the prevention of HIV/AIDS.
Similarly, another lecturer who is also from NACA, Mr. John Tobias, observed that as part of the need to reduce HIV prevalence in Ondo State from 4.3% to the minimum, a lot needs to be done to enlighten the rural dwellers on the epidemic, so as to guide against further spread.
Responding, one of the participants, and the Chief Executive Officer of Global Help Trust Foundation, Mrs. Uche Daodu, said the training would enhance the policy of zero tolerance to discrimination, infection and death of people with HIV/AIDS.
