Beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Program will be trained by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF). The program is part of ITF’s effort at reintegrating the amnesty beneficiaries back inti the society.

In a statement by Mr Owei Lakemfa, Head, Media and Communications of the programme (PAP) and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, more than 800 training centres of the ITF could be opened to the beneficiaries for training in areas like oil and gas, telecommunications and agriculture.

The statement reported the director-general as saying that ITF could carry out skills study in the Niger Delta region that would encourage employment of local, rather than foreign employees in the oil and gas. Chukkas-Onaeko also proposed a Memorandum of Understanding among the ITF, the programme and the Niger Delta Development Commission on the sustainability of the programme.

The statement reads “The Presidential Amnesty Programme is anxious to work with all organisations and strategic partners, including international ones to achieve the objectives of the Amnesty Programme,’’.

The Amnesty Coordinator had earlier said that the office and the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs were currently working together to boost skills utilisation to close existing development gaps in the area.
