In an attempt to improve the welfare of Orsu people and foster the development of Orsu Local Government Area, members of the Orsu Local Government Association in the United States of America (OLGA-USA) have mapped out elaborate plans aimed at empowering the people of Orsu LGA and also bringing development nearer to the people, especially the youths, the indigent and socially disadvantaged people including women.

As a way of promoting literacy among residents of the LGA, the group will establish a functional E-library in selected secondary schools in the area where students and other readers can visit and download reading materials. The group will also organize annual soccer competitions for all secondary schools in the area as a means of encouraging youth soccer development and talent discovery.

Other projects to be embarked upon by the association include the organization of food relief programmes for indigent people in the area to alleviate their suffering and improve their living conditions, and the institution of a micro-finance credit scheme for eligible female entrepreneurs in the area to enable them establish income generating businesses of their own.

The association also expressed its desire to partner with the transitional chairman of Orsu LGA, the leadership of Orsu Zurumee, (an association of all the town unions in the local government), traditional rulers, Liaison officers from the various autonomous communities in the area to promote the welfare of Orsu people in Nigeria and in Diaspora and to ensure the successful implementation of the laudable empowerment projects.

It will be recalled that last year the OLGA-USA organized free medical checks for people in the area as part of its contribution towards better health for Orsu people. It is expected that more of such health interventions will be organized in future.
