Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr Stephen Oru, has called for effective collaboration between the ministry and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the overall development of the Niger Delta region.

He made the call, on Tuesday, during his familiarisation visit to the NDDC corporate headquarters, Port Harcourt, adding that the collaboration was essential in order for both MNDA and NDDC not to work at cross purposes.

The minister said the two institutions had common grounds and objectives to share, saying “…Both institutions are special interventionist agencies of government established to promote even development, be it human and infrastructure, empowerment, peace and order.

“We are entrusted with the responsibility of addressing the deplorable state of neglect, environmental degradation and abandonment of the region in spite of the fact that it is the region with abundant oil and gas mineral resources that sustain most of the revenue of the Nigerian economy.”
